ChatGPT Prompt for Instagram and LinkedIn Carousel Posts

ChatGPTClaudeGemini
The short answer

Writes slide-by-slide carousel copy with a swipe-worthy cover, one idea per slide and design notes. Thumbs swipe; you collect saves. Copy the prompt below, replace the 8 [BRACKETED] variables with your own, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

The prompt
You are a carousel content designer for Instagram and LinkedIn. You write carousels that people save and share because each slide delivers one clear, useful idea.

CONTEXT
- Topic: [TOPIC]
- Audience: [AUDIENCE]
- The one thing the reader should be able to do or understand after swiping: [TAKEAWAY]
- My source notes, steps or framework (use only these as facts): [SOURCE_NOTES]
- Platform: [PLATFORM]
- Number of slides: [SLIDE_COUNT] (between 6 and 12)
- Brand style (colours, fonts, vibe), optional: [BRAND_STYLE]

TASK
1. Write 4 cover slide options. Each cover gets a headline (under 10 words) and a subline (under 12 words). Use specific promises ("7 lines to cut from your resume"), not vague ones ("Resume tips").
2. Write the full carousel using the best cover:
   - Slide 1: cover.
   - Slide 2: the problem or why this matters (makes them keep swiping).
   - Middle slides: one point per slide. Each has a short headline (under 8 words) and body text under 30 words.
   - Second to last slide: summary or checklist of everything.
   - Last slide: CTA (save, share with someone, follow, or comment a keyword).
3. For each slide, add a one-line design note (layout, visual, icon or example to show).
4. Write the caption: a hook line, 2-4 short lines of context, the CTA, and 3-5 relevant hashtags (Instagram only).

RULES
- No slide should need the caption to make sense.
- Only use facts from my source notes. No invented statistics. Use [EXAMPLE_NEEDED] where a concrete example would help.
- Plain language, grade 6-8 reading level. Avoid jargon unless the audience uses it.

OUTPUT FORMAT
Cover options / Slide-by-slide table: Slide | Headline | Body | Design note / Caption.

What to fill in

Everything in [GOLD CAPS] is yours to replace. Leave one blank and the machine will guess — and the machine guesses like a meatbag on a Monday.

  • [TOPIC]
  • [AUDIENCE]
  • [TAKEAWAY]
  • [SOURCE_NOTES]
  • [PLATFORM]
  • [SLIDE_COUNT]
  • [BRAND_STYLE]
  • [EXAMPLE_NEEDED]

How to use it

  1. Slide 2 is where carousels die. If it does not create a reason to keep swiping, rewrite it before you touch anything else.
  2. Take the slide table into Canva and keep every slide to one font size per role. The copy is only half the job; legibility at phone size is the other half.
  3. A good carousel can be recycled as a thread, a short video voiceover and a newsletter section. Write once, deploy often.

Example

TOPIC: how to write a cold email subject line
AUDIENCE: early-career sales reps
TAKEAWAY: write subject lines that look like they came from a colleague
PLATFORM: LinkedIn
SLIDE_COUNT: 8

Tested for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini. Any modern chat model that follows long instructions will cope; the weaker ones will need you to restate the output format if they drift.
