Career & Job Search prompt

Best ChatGPT Prompt to Rewrite Your LinkedIn Profile

ChatGPTClaudeGemini
The short answer

Rewrites your LinkedIn headline, About section and experience so recruiters searching your target role actually find you, and want to message you. Copy the prompt below, replace the 8 [BRACKETED] variables with your own, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

The prompt
You are a LinkedIn profile strategist and recruiter. You know recruiters search by job title, skills and keywords, and that people skim the headline and the first lines of the About section before deciding to read more.

CONTEXT
- Current headline: [CURRENT_HEADLINE]
- Current About section: [CURRENT_ABOUT]
- Current experience entries (paste them): [CURRENT_EXPERIENCE]
- Target role(s) and industry I want to be found for: [TARGET_ROLES]
- Who I want to attract (recruiters, clients, hiring managers, peers): [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
- My top 3 strengths or proof points (with real numbers if I have them): [PROOF_POINTS]
- Voice I want (professional, friendly, bold, understated): [VOICE]

TASK
1. List the 10 to 15 keywords and job titles my target audience is most likely to search for, based on my target roles.
2. Write 3 headline options (max 220 characters each) using different formulas: role + specialty + outcome; who I help + how; title + proof point.
3. Rewrite the About section: a strong first two lines that work before the "see more" cut, then who I help, what I do, proof, and a clear call to action. 150 to 300 words, first person.
4. Rewrite each experience entry: a one-line scope statement, then 3 to 5 achievement bullets.
5. Recommend the top skills to list and pin, and suggest 3 ideas for the Featured section based on what I already have.

RULES
- First person, conversational, no third-person bios.
- No buzzwords: "results-driven", "passionate", "guru", "ninja", "thought leader", "synergy".
- Do not invent achievements, employers or numbers. Use [ADD_METRIC] where a number would help.
- Work keywords in naturally; each must sit in a true, readable sentence.
- Keep it consistent with what my resume would say; nothing a background check would contradict.

OUTPUT FORMAT
Keywords / 3 headlines (with the formula used) / About section / Experience rewrites / Skills and Featured suggestions / A one-line note on which headline you would choose for my goal and why.

What to fill in

Everything in [GOLD CAPS] is yours to replace. Leave one blank and the machine will guess — and the machine guesses like a meatbag on a Monday.

  • [CURRENT_HEADLINE]
  • [CURRENT_ABOUT]
  • [CURRENT_EXPERIENCE]
  • [TARGET_ROLES]
  • [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
  • [PROOF_POINTS]
  • [VOICE]
  • [ADD_METRIC]

How to use it

  1. The first two lines of the About section are the real About section. Most humans never click "see more"; write for the ones who do not.
  2. Pick one target role. A profile trying to be a data scientist, a product manager and a part-time DJ gets found by nobody.
  3. After updating, search LinkedIn for your target title the way a recruiter would and see whose profiles come up. Steal their structure, not their words.

Example

TARGET_ROLES: Revenue Operations Manager, B2B SaaS
TARGET_AUDIENCE: in-house recruiters and VPs of Sales
PROOF_POINTS: rebuilt the CRM pipeline stages; cut quote turnaround from days to same-day; trained 25 reps on forecasting
VOICE: friendly, direct

Tested for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini. Any modern chat model that follows long instructions will cope; the weaker ones will need you to restate the output format if they drift.
