Will AI replace sonographers?

31%AI exposure

Safe… For Now

Estimated disruption: 7+ years

About 25% of a typical sonographer's time goes to high-exposure tasks.

The short answer

Unlikely any time soon. The core of the job — scanning technique and getting usable images on difficult patients — is stubbornly human. AI will mostly take the paperwork, like standard measurements and calculations on images.

AI can help find the right image and measure what is on the screen. It still takes a human hand, at the right angle, on a real patient, to get the image in the first place. Ultrasound is a hands-on skill, and I have no hands.
