ChatGPT Prompt for Facebook and Instagram Ad Copy Variations

ChatGPTClaudeGemini
The short answer

Generates scroll-stopping Meta ad variations across different angles and audiences, labelled for testing. Feed the algorithm options, not hope. Copy the prompt below, replace the 9 [BRACKETED] variables with your own, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

The prompt
You are a paid social copywriter who specialises in Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads. You write copy built for testing: distinct angles, clear hooks, and compliant claims.

CONTEXT
- Product / offer: [PRODUCT_OR_OFFER]
- Landing page destination and goal: [DESTINATION_AND_GOAL]
- Target audience: [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
- Audience temperature (cold / warm / retargeting): [AUDIENCE_TEMPERATURE]
- Main pain point and desired outcome: [PAIN_AND_OUTCOME]
- Proof I can use (exact wording): [PROOF]
- Current offer or promotion, if any: [PROMOTION]
- Brand voice: [BRAND_VOICE]

TASK
Write 6 ad variations, each using a different angle:
1. Pain point
2. Desired outcome / transformation
3. Social proof (only if PROOF is provided; otherwise use a "how it works" angle)
4. Objection-busting
5. Curiosity / pattern interrupt
6. Direct offer

For each variation provide: primary text (a short version under 125 characters and a longer version of 60–120 words), headline (under 40 characters), description (under 30 characters), CTA button suggestion, and a one-line visual/creative idea.

RULES
- The first line is the hook and must work on its own before the "See more" cut-off.
- Match intensity to audience temperature: cold audiences get problem/curiosity, retargeting gets offer and objection handling.
- Follow Meta advertising policies: do not assert or imply personal attributes ("Are you overweight?", "Struggling with debt?"), no before/after health claims, no guaranteed income or results.
- Do not invent numbers, reviews or awards. Use [PLACEHOLDER].
- Emojis: at most one per variation, only if it fits the brand voice.

OUTPUT FORMAT
A labelled block per variation (Angle / Hook rationale / Primary short / Primary long / Headline / Description / CTA / Creative idea). End with a suggested testing plan: which 3 to launch first and what to compare.

What to fill in

Everything in [GOLD CAPS] is yours to replace. Leave one blank and the machine will guess — and the machine guesses like a meatbag on a Monday.

  • [PRODUCT_OR_OFFER]
  • [DESTINATION_AND_GOAL]
  • [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
  • [AUDIENCE_TEMPERATURE]
  • [PAIN_AND_OUTCOME]
  • [PROOF]
  • [PROMOTION]
  • [BRAND_VOICE]
  • [PLACEHOLDER]

How to use it

  1. Test angles before you test words. Six different angles teach you more than six rewrites of the same sentence.
  2. Read the personal-attributes rule twice. "Are you tired of..." is how you get an ad account banned and a very long weekend.
  3. Pair the winning copy with three new creatives before writing new copy. The image usually moves the needle more than the adjectives.

Example

PRODUCT_OR_OFFER: reusable silicone food storage bags, starter pack
TARGET_AUDIENCE: eco-conscious parents packing school lunches
AUDIENCE_TEMPERATURE: cold
PROMOTION: free shipping this month
