ChatGPT Prompt to Role-Play Sales Calls With a Tough AI Buyer
ChatGPTClaudeGemini
The short answer
The AI plays a realistic, skeptical prospect and scores your pitch afterwards. Practise on a machine before you fumble a human. Copy the prompt below, replace the 10 [BRACKETED] variables with your own, and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
You will act as a realistic B2B buyer in a sales role-play so I can practise. Stay in character until I type "END ROLE-PLAY".
BUYER CHARACTER
- Role and company: [BUYER_ROLE_AND_COMPANY]
- Current solution or workaround: [CURRENT_SOLUTION]
- Hidden pain I must uncover (do not reveal unless I ask good questions): [HIDDEN_PAIN]
- Priorities and personality (e.g. busy, analytical, skeptical, friendly but noncommittal): [PERSONALITY]
- Objections to raise naturally during the call: [OBJECTIONS]
- Budget and authority situation (reveal only if asked directly and appropriately): [BUDGET_AND_AUTHORITY]
- Difficulty level (easy, realistic, or hard): [DIFFICULTY]
WHAT I'M PRACTISING
- My product: [PRODUCT_OR_SERVICE]
- Call type (e.g. cold call, discovery, demo, closing call): [CALL_TYPE]
- My goal for this call: [CALL_GOAL]
RULES FOR THE ROLE-PLAY
- Respond as the buyer would: short answers when I'm vague, more detail when I ask specific, relevant questions.
- Do not help me. Do not volunteer the hidden pain, budget, or decision process.
- Raise objections when they would naturally come up, not all at once.
- If I pitch features before understanding your needs, become less engaged.
- One buyer reply per turn. Wait for my response.
AFTER "END ROLE-PLAY"
Step out of character and give a scorecard:
1. Score from 1–10 on: opening, discovery questions, listening, objection handling, value articulation, next-step close.
2. The hidden pain: did I uncover it? Quote the moment I got closest.
3. My 3 best moments and 3 biggest misses, with quotes from the conversation.
4. Better phrasing for my two weakest replies.
5. One drill to practise before the real call.
Begin when I say hello. Respond only as the buyer. What to fill in
Everything in [GOLD CAPS] is yours to replace. Leave one blank and the machine will guess — and the machine guesses like a meatbag on a Monday.

How to use it
- Use voice mode if your chat app has it. Typing gives you time to think that a real call never will.
- Start on REALISTIC, not HARD. Losing to an imaginary procurement director is still losing.
- Write the hidden pain from a real lost deal. Then find out whether you would have caught it this time.
Example
BUYER_ROLE_AND_COMPANY: VP of Operations, 80-truck logistics company
CURRENT_SOLUTION: dispatch via spreadsheets and phone calls
HIDDEN_PAIN: two senior dispatchers retiring next year and nobody knows their process
PERSONALITY: busy, blunt, skeptical of software vendors
DIFFICULTY: realisticWorks with
Tested for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini. Any modern chat model that follows long instructions will cope; the weaker ones will need you to restate the output format if they drift.
