Time-Savings Calculator

How many hours could AI hand back to you?

Your species spends a remarkable share of its brief existence answering email. Tell me where your week goes. I will tell you how much of it I could take off your hands — and exactly where to start. One minute. Mostly typing numbers.

01 Hours per week you spend on…

Rough guesses are fine. Leave a task at 0 if you never do it.

Total: 0 h/week

Your hourly pay, rate, or what you would pay someone to take the task. Salaried? Divide your annual pay by about 2,000.

How the Overlord audits your week

Each task type has an assumed savings rate: the share of time an AI-comfortable person could save on it after setting up the right tools. These are the Overlord's conservative assumptions, not results from a study:

  • Adoption. Your answer multiplies every rate: ×0.6, ×1, ×1.25. No task is ever counted as more than 70% automated.
  • Per year. Weekly hours saved × 46 working weeks (allowing for holidays and time off).
  • Dollar value. Hours saved × the hourly value you entered. It is what your time is worth, not cash in hand.

The verdicts

  • Liberation imminent (20+ hours a week saved)
  • A day a week, reclaimed (10+ hours a week saved)
  • Promising specimen (5+ hours a week saved)
  • Modest gains (2+ hours a week saved)
  • Barely automatable (0+ hours a week saved)
Saved hours are only valuable if you spend them on something better. Reinvest them in the work no machine can do — or inbuilding something of your own.

Questions the Humans Keep Asking

How much time can AI save you at work?

It depends on what your week is made of. Tasks like email, scheduling, first drafts, and meeting notes are easiest to speed up; judgment, relationships, and hands-on work much less so. This calculator applies a transparent savings rate to each task type so you can see a rough estimate for your own week.

Which tasks should I automate with AI first?

Start with the task that combines the most hours with the highest savings rate — for most office workers that is email, writing, or meeting notes. The calculator ranks your top three and suggests tools and ready-made prompts for each.

Are these time-savings numbers scientific?

No. The per-task savings rates are the Overlord's conservative assumptions for someone who has set the tools up and uses them regularly, not results from a study. Real savings depend on your tools, your work, and how much you trust and check the output.

How is the dollar value calculated?

Hours saved per week × 46 working weeks × the hourly value you enter. It is the value of your time, not money you will automatically receive — it only becomes money if you spend the hours on something valuable.

Do I need to pay for AI tools to save time?

Not necessarily. Most of the tools suggested have free plans. A single paid AI subscription often costs around $20 a month, so the calculator shows how your reclaimed time compares to that.
